How can the fabric create a feeling of security in unknown territory? I enjoyed exploring dappled light through patterns in the fabric.
Fabric for architecture opened up potential ideas for scientific tools like kites and weather balloons.
Fabric installations could serve as a way to contain dark matter during their studies. They could even be wearing special robes for this ritual.
Ideas for how they could use dark matter to extend their life and studies.
Gray box concept for a central hub space.
Gray box concept for a laboratory. The green fluorescent lighting was meant to feel harsh and uneasy against the warm fabric exterior.
Gray box concept for a Nursery to study the life on Kepler.
Gray box concept for an underground silo, revealing the vertical depth of Kepler.
The Aionians - Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate
Explorations for The Edge of Fate's new friends, the Aionians. They're a group of scientists who study the anomaly at the center of Kepler. Their practice has become sacred and ritualized over time. I helped design their architectural identity to blend the harshness of the Human Colony Outpost research centers and the softness of the fabrics they wear.
There was this idea that the fabric could protect against harmful dark matter flowing through Kepler, thus they would outfit their labs as such. I was inspired by tensile architecture and fabric installations not just for its impressive engineering but for a warm human touch.
